Much better than, say, a p.o.s. 88 Iroc Z with a 350ci engine getting about 12-15mpg. 2. Bike, walk, run, take public transportation and carpool as much as you can. As bad as high gas prices are they do (or should) encourage conservation. I personally think prices should be doubled. I live in a city and don't even own a car.
