Description: Speaking at Loyola College, David Simon, an author and creator of the acclaimed HBO program, "The Wire," shares his views on the end of the American Empire in three video segments. He says we're headed for separate Americas of "haves and have-nots." Simon faults "unencumbered Capitalism" for making our country care less about the most vulnerable of our citizens. Unless we change, he predicts "we are doomed." |

mrballa23 ::: Favorites Do anybody know how I can email David Simon ? Do he still write for the Newspaper ? If he still do proof it Please 07-08-11 06:00:55 _____________________________________________________
petebrasco ::: Favorites I guess having my family in hungary for the last 500 years was not enough to find out what 'pure' communism is. The trouble with communism is that it looks great in theory and in practice it is a total disaster. Stifles the human spirit. But i guess i am biased in that we moved to this country b/c of capitalism and we are enjoying the american dream...all the while the people who were born here crap on it b/c they dont know what they have. Truly sad. 07-08-08 08:47:22 _____________________________________________________
petebrasco ::: Favorites They are exactly what i said...socialist. I call it what it is. Abandoned it most vulnerable citizens? How is that? The poor in this country have it better than most of the middle class around the world. I guess the only way of attacking my argument is attacking the words i use...weak. 07-08-08 08:44:47 _____________________________________________________
davyjames ::: Favorites HUGELY IMPORTANT Type in "Ron Paul on Monetary Policy" into youtube here, this man needs our vote in 08. He understands the issues The Wire deals with. It all comes together. He is NOT politics as usual! 07-08-08 00:08:38 _____________________________________________________
sleepcity ::: Favorites "socialism"? Try "humanism". The more your arguments involve categorizing and branding people with empty shibboleths like that, the less your argument says. Try making your point without all the buzzwords you learned from network news and you'll find your argument isn't much. Calling somebody a "socialist" doesn't refute or confront the fact that this country has abandoned its most vulnerable citizens. 07-08-07 22:28:52 _____________________________________________________
Shirro384 ::: Favorites are you sure you are not in the honeymoon phase with capitalism yet. how are u sure hungary was a pure working communism 07-07-01 16:35:27 _____________________________________________________
Dgrey395 ::: Favorites David Simon is a TV creator true, but he's not the people who created Friends or Sienfeld. Simon acutally knows what he's talking about, because he lives in Baltimore and is a reporter for the Baltimore Sun, and he also has the backing of a current FBI agent and former BPD officer Ed Burns. If you read his books "Homicide" and "The Corner" you realize that he's more of a journalist than a storyteller and is often dry, but he does know what he's talking about. 07-06-13 21:07:37 _____________________________________________________
petebrasco ::: Favorites There will always be socialists that pander to the poor and downtrodden b/c they promise them a way out w/o having to do the work. I immigrated from communist hungary and i can tell you first hand that communism/socialism stifles the human spirit more than capitalism ever can. 07-06-01 22:50:55 _____________________________________________________
petebrasco ::: Favorites Lest we forget, Simon has a TV show and i know how holly wood loves to foster the notion of a selfish society that exploits the weak and leaves them no choice but to resort to crime in order to survive. Great, i can pick out the plight of the alaskan crab fisherman as it relates to american society as well, but it wont change the fact that some people still want to fish the Bering Sea no matter what they get paid. 07-06-01 22:48:24 _____________________________________________________ |
