Description:

UPDATE #2: The body of James Kim has been found. This is a devastating discovery... Yet, we should be thankful that at least Kati and the two kids are healthy. And at least they don't have to wonder what ever happened to James. I hope their family can heal from this tragedy. Much appreciation to the rescue team(s) for trying their hardest. They managed to bring 3 people home. This story could have been much more tragic had it not been for them. I wish that James could be with his family today, but let's count the blessings. UPDATE: Kati and the two girls were found alive! James had gone off to find help and has not yet been discovered. While it's exciting that most of the family is safe, we've still got to keep our fingers crossed for James' safety as well. She wants to get the word out somehow, and I made this vlog. If have seen this family since Saturday, 26 Nov 2006, or may have been driving from Portland to San Francisco at around the same time and noticed skid marks or an abandoned car or something, please alert the authorities. Contact the SFPD at 415-558-5508 during normal business hours and at 415-553-1071 after-hours. The Pacific Northwest call center for the case can be reached at 1-800-452-7888. I enabled embedding, so feel free to post this video on your blog or message board. I want a happy ending to this story.

How did he know, yezeniah? He was being an amazing father and husband, attempting to be a hero for his kids. In fact, he believed he was 4 miles away from a town, but the map-reading was incorrect. He was trying to save his kids.

Why did he had to go to the woods?! I live in Oregon the conditions were so bad it was frizzing! He wasn't going to return he should it stayed in the car. Now his kids don't have a father!

Thanks for that information. I'd never heard of one of those before. I agree; he was a hero.

James Kim died as a hero trying to save his family. RIP. For anyone else with a family who travels in winter, or in mountains, consider getting a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon). About the size of a deck of cards, it will sit in your glovebox for 11 years on a single battery, and when you activate it, will transmit your exact GPS coordinates via satellite to NOAA, and they will (24x7) notify the local authorities with your position. about 600 dollars. Google "PLB".

Was found about a 1/4 from Black Bar Lodge(P.O. Box "51"0,Merlin, Oregon 97532).He was right to try to get to the river;the problem is the trail is on the other side.I was talking to someone today he in GP who said that the family received travel advice from the Wilsonville(Portland, ORE)Chamber of Commerce who recommended going to Merlin then cutting over.Terrible advice(unless it's the Summer). The State Highway off I-5@Roseburg is two lanes and sometimes 4)through the to the coast.

Yeah; I just uploaded a vlog (it's not processed yet), and at the end I said that I hoped James would be found alive. I only just heard that he was not... Seems stupid to keep the newest video up now, but I suppose I can take it down later. I'm really bummed about this... But at least the other three are okay. And the rescuers did a great job. At least the family will have closure.

I don't want to be too critical, either. Some people have been just terrible about their decision. But honestly, if it was me, I would have just glanced at a map to see what looked to be the shortest path from point A to B and taken it, not even thinking that maybe it was a risky stretch of road and whatnot. Since they weren't from the area, they may not have realized...

I don't really know exactly which way he took...out of Glendale (So. of Roseburg) you'd take the road over the GRAVES Creek Bridge. From Merlin (exit 61 I-5) you'd go through Galice and then over. A much safer route would've been stright over from Roseburg. I realy want to avoid being critical of Mr. Kim's decision. Afterall, it's only 45-50 miles as the crow flies from I-5 to the coast. Not far on a map.
