Their plan was to force a settlement by making the invasion of Japan as bloody for the Americans as possible, regardless of the cost in their own lives. The nuke made that irrelevent, we could annihilate everything and not lose a man doing it. chimptastic1 ::: Favorites Okay, just to clear up the history here, the Japanese had offered what we would term a conditional surrender, but they would have called a settlement. It would have meant that those in power would have stayed in power in Japan, but that the fighting would cease and Japan would just stay put in the places where it already was, it's the same deal that the Germans were offering for a while before they were at last forced to capitulate unconditionally. 07-04-15 04:16:15 __________________________________________________
